This is a copycat of a hat worn by Oluwande (portrayed by Samson Kayo) in the fantastic HBO historical romcom “Our Flag Means Death.” It features a rolled brim, a stranded geometric design, and a negative-ease-fit. For a more traditionally-fitting beanie (or if you’re like me and have a big noggin), try the larger size.

I wasn’t able to find information about the actual hat seen in the show, so I jumped on recreating it (as one does when excited about a show and spotting knitwear). Christine Wada is credited as the costume designer, so tricorn hats off to her!

And a big thank you to David Jenkins, Taika Waititi, Rhys Darby, and the rest of the excellent cast and crew behind OFMD. It means so much to see this kind of representation wrapped up in such a fun package. Renew for seasons 2 and 3 now!
