This pattern makes a replica of Oluwande’s hat in the TV show Our Flag Means Death. The hat will sit low on the head (as opposed to the one in the show).

It uses knitting in the round, stranded colour work and a bottom up construction. These are not explained in detail in the pattern.

A chart for a 20 stitch wide pattern is given, which makes the base of the sizing. 9 patterns makes a size L hat, 8 patterns makes a size M hat and 7 patterns makes a size S hat. For the smallest size, length and crown intake may have to be adjusted to produce a proportionate hat.

I suggest 100% wool so that a perfect size can be blocked and the crown shaping adjusted according to taste. It also allows for instant distressing - to brush up a pile on the hat - if desired.

Sample hat used ca 30 grams of each colour on 2,5 mm needles.

update 12th of march 2023: Pattern chart error corrected and suggesting adjusting “between sizes”-problem with needle sizes to pattern.

Thank you for all the continued positive feedback on this pattern! I’m so thrilled so many are enjoying it!
