Last fall, I went in search of a cowl pattern and couldn’t find the perfect one - so I went rogue and created ‘On Golden Moss’. I wanted a snuggy fitting design that buttoned so I could avoid pulling it over my hair on those days when I happen to achieve a ‘good hair day’!

Golden Moss is a simple, yet satisfying cowl comprised of moss stitch with garter borders and a few easy buttonholes.

Materials
1 skein heavy aran weight yarn OR
1-2 skeins bulky yarn (I used 1.2 skeins of Lace Merino Chunky, which is not terribly bulky, in my opinion)

Gauge & Needles
Gauge is not critical for this project - consider it a guide for approximate sizing. At a gauge of ~ 4 stitches per inch, your cowl should measure between 7.5 - 8 inches wide. Most importantly, choose the yarn/needle combination that gives you a nice fabric (e.g., I used a US 8 (5.0 mm) with the Ella Rae Lace Merino Chunky so my fabric wouldn’t be too floppy).

Notions
4 buttons, tapestry needle, sewing needle (for buttons, if they have small holes)

When I create something I enjoy, I’m happy to share with others because I have benefited from many free patterns. While I do my best to avoid mistakes, this pattern has not been through the rigors of technical editing. Please let me know if you find a mistake by sending me a message. Enjoy!
