The One Day Reversible Hat is a fast and easy project — perfect when you want a quick, satisfying knit! Using between 130 and 150 meters / 142 and 160 yds of yarn, it works up in no time.
The hat is knitted from the ribbing to the crown. Begin with 6 rounds of 1x1 ribbing using smaller needles, then switch to the main pattern and bigger needles. After completing the given repeats (or reaching your desired length), continue with the decreases for the top of the hat.
The yarn has a thick-and-thin texture, which creates a lovely wavy effect in the ribbing. After washing and blocking, this wave can be smoothed out if you prefer a more structured look.
In my pink sample (size 2 – Adult Small) / Sunset Cruise, I kept the natural wave because I liked the soft, organic look. In the green sample (size 3 – Adult Large) / Winslow Green, I decided to block it flat, as that version was made for a man and felt more suitable.
For sizes 1, 2 you’ll need only one skein of yarn. For size 3 (Adult Large), you’ll need two skeins. You may have some leftover yarn, which you can use for decorative elements. For example, I made a braid with tassel-like end that can be attached or removed anytime.
This hat is a wonderful accessory — fully reversible, with one side showing more of the thick-and-thin texture and the other appearing neater and more polished.
Enjoy knitting your hat!
