The One More Row Scarf was born from a desire for a simple yet versatile accessory. I wanted to knit a scarf that I could wrap around my neck, tie loosely around my shoulders as a statement accessory, or wear as a hood for extra warmth. The scarf is knitted in Stockinette stitch with elegant i-cord edges.

This is a true “any-yarn” project and doesn’t call for a specific gauge, so dig into your stash or treat yourself to something new. Whether you choose a chunky wool for a cozy winter wrap or a lightweight cotton for an airy summer layer, this pattern works beautifully at any gauge. This pattern is suitable for advanced beginners.

Finished measurements:
Widest part of the scarf: 50 (56) cm / 19.75 (22)”.
Wingspan (length of scarf from tip to end): 160 (186) cm / 63 (73.25)”.

Note! Your finished scarf may vary in width and length depending on your yarn weight and needle size.

Sample gauge:
Gauge is not critical for this project. Just make sure you’re happy with the fabric you’re creating. If it feels too stiff, go up a needle size. If it feels too loose, go down a needle size.

Gray sample (size 1)
24 sts × 34 rows = 4” / 10 cm in Stockinette stitch, using fingering weight yarn on 4 mm / US6 needles.

Red sample (size 2)
22 sts × 31 rows = 4” / 10 cm in Stockinette stitch, using fingering weight yarn on 4 mm / US6 needles.

Blush pink sample (size 1)
20 sts × 26 rows = 4” / 10 cm in Stockinette stitch, using two strands of fingering weight yarn held double (equals a DK weight yarn) on 4 mm / US6 needles.

You can use any yarn for this scarf! See below for the yarns used in the samples.
Tip! A thicker yarn will give a chunkier, warmer scarf while a thinner yarn will drape more softly.
