The Open Hearted Vest is a cropped vest featuring a bold, stranded colourwork motif in three colours of 8ply/ DK yarn. The vest is worked in the round from the bottom up and grafted at the shoulders using Kitchener Stitch. Neck and arm holes are cut or “steeked” before neat, ribbed neck and arm bands are picked up and knit along the raw edges to finish.

Materials

YARN
The vest depicted in this pattern usesthree colours of Brooklyn Tweed Arbor (Targhee non-super wash wool; 133 m
per 50 g skein):
Main Colour (MC) in Cobbler: 3 (4, 4, 5)(5, 6, 6, 6)
Contrast Colour (CC1) in Mesa: 1 ( 2, 2, 2)(2, 2, 2, 3)
Contrast Colour (CC2) in Klimt: 1 (1, 2, 2)(2, 2, 2, 2)

When selecting alternative yarns, they should be of a similar gauge and yardage per 50 g and preferably, non super wash. Super wash yarns will require crochet or sewn reinforcement
prior to steeking.

Note that yarn requirements are calculated based on finished measurements and a longer vest will require more yarn.

Knitting needles
4 mm / US 6 (or size to get gauge in colourwork) circular knitting needles in 2 lengths:
• 60-120 cm / 24-48” for the ribbed bottom band and all of the colorwork (depending on the size you are knitting, pick the length ~20-40 cm / 8-16” less than finished garment chest circumference)
• 40 cm / 16” for the ribbed neckband and armhole bands

Gauge
All measurements are taken after blocking lightly with a steam iron.
10cm x 10cm/ 4” x 4” =
25 sts x 30 rounds in colourwork pattern
27 sts x 33 rounds in Single Rib (k1, p1)
21 sts x 35 rounds in Double Rib (k2, p2)

Size
Sizes 1 (2, 3, 4) (5, 6, 7, 8) with finished garment chest circumference of 80 (90, 100, 110) (120, 130, 140, 150) cm / 31.5 (35.5, 39.5, 43.5) (47, 51, 55, 59)“.
Intended to be worn with 0-10 cm / 0-4” of positive ease.
