OrangUtan Hat (Orang=person Utan=forest)
Description
I love orangutans and wanted to convey the joyful spirit of young ones playing in the forest to foster an awareness of this endangered species. This hat is more fitted than many knit hats, using different sized needles to achieve gauge, and is less likely to stretch out of shape, because of the corrugated ribbing edge.
Gauge
Achieving gauge on colorwork can be a little more complicated because the tension on the floats plays a vital role in determining gauge. I used needle sizes, 6, 7, and 8 for sizes A (17”), B (19”), and C ( 21”), respectively, but your needle size should be based on what size you need to achieve the gauge. Take the time to swatch as this is a more fitted hat and may not fit if you do not achieve gauge. A =4.5 stitches/inch B =5 stitches/inch C =5.5 stitches/inch.
