Orbit Hat
The Orbit Hat is knitted in the round using a graphic two colour twisted spiral stitch. It has a cosy fold-up hem which exposes the reverse side of the stitch.
With step-by-step, easy-to-follow instructions, this pattern uses the following techniques: Cable cast on, knitting in the round, knit, slip stitch, knitting into the back of the stitch, decreasing. For help with techniques see useful links at the back of the pattern.
Skill Level: Intermediate
Size: This pattern includes two sizes: Size 1 [Size 2].
Size 1: To fit head circumference 53-58cm/21-23”
Size 2: To fit head circumference 58-63cm/23-25”
Yarn: Any bulky weight yarn with approx stocking stitch tension of 10-13 sts/14-17 rows. You will need approx 50g/70m [65g/90m] of colour A and colour B. For the grey/blue hat we have used:
Colour A (Grey) = 1 [2] balls of Lana Grossa Ecopuno Chunky, 48% Cotton, 33% Merino Wool, 19% Baby Alpaca. (70m/77 yd per 50g ball.)
Colour B (Blue) = 1 [1] balls of Lana Grossa Lala Berlin Lovely Cotton, 75% Merino Wool, 25% Cotton. (90m/98 yd per 50g ball.)
Yarn alternatives: Drops Wish, Wool and the Gang Big Love Cotton, Gepard Garn Puno.
Suggested Needle Size: 8mm/US 11 circular needles, length 40-50cm/16”-19½“.
Gauge: Twisted Stitch:
10cm/4’’ x 10cm/4’’ = 16 stitches x 20 rows
