This slouchy beret is knit from the brim to the crown. The brim is worked in garter and can be worked in a colour fade, as it is here, or in a single colour. The rest of the hat is worked in a Star Mesh pattern borrowed from the Estonian lace tradition. 



This hat is part of a informal series inspired by William Gibson’s Neuromancer - you’ll find some of the same stitches in my upcoming Straylight top.

  • 140 yrds Colour C - sample shown in Rose Quartz
  • Star Mesh Needles: 4.5 mm (US 7) 24” circular and DPNS
  • Garter Needles: 2.75 mm (US 2) 16” circular needles
  • Darning needle
  • 1 stitch marker

GAUGES:

  • 28 sts/28 rounds over 4”/10 cm square in star mesh, after blocking, using 4.5 mm needles
  • 22 sts/52 rounds over 4”/10 cm square in garter stitch, after blocking, using 2.75 mm needles
