OSCAR THE OWL BOOKEND KNITTING PATTERN

Owls are avid bookworms, so Oscar will feel perfectly at home perched on your bookshelf. As well as keeping guard of your books, Oscar also makes a super quick to knit toy.

If you want to add some weight to your owl, insert a small sealed bag of dried rice or pebbles inside the owl when you stuff it.

You could also add embroidery to the front of the owl using Swiss darning to add little v shaped stitches for the owl’s feathers.

ABOUT THE PATTERN: The pattern has row numbers for each step so you don’t lose your place, instructions for making the owl, a list of abbreviations and explanation of some techniques and a materials list. The pattern is 3 pages and written in English.

TECHNIQUES: All pieces are knitted flat (back and forth) on a pair of straight knitting needles. You need to know how to knit, purl, increase and decrease, and do some seaming.

YOU WILL NEED:

  • A pair of straight 4.5mm knitting needles (US 7)
  • Aran/worsted weight yarn; less than 30g in each colour
  • Toy filling
  • Buttons for eyes
