DESCRIPTION

This mariner’s hat knitting pattern was inspired by the hat Roger wears in Outlander Season 4.

The hat is stretchy as it is knit all in the rib stitch, so will fit a variety of adult head sizes.

Knit in the round in 1×1 ribbing, this is an easy project for any advanced beginner.

Yarn

Aran/worsted/10 ply. 50g (for the 5.5mm (US 9) needles).
I used 1 x Rowan Kid Classic in Bitter Sweet 866 (50g/140m/153yds).
The hat was also made in 1 x The Petite Wool (100g/140m/142yds) from We Are Knitters in Ivory (a bulky/chunky/12 ply yarn) This requires being knit with 6mm (US 10) 16″ circular knitting needles.

Needles

5.5mm (US 9) 16″ circular knitting needles.
Please note – you may have to change your needles for the decreases of the hat if working on the circulars becomes too tight.
This would mean using a set of size 5.5 mm double-pointed needles (DPNs). If you do not have those, you could use a 60cm/24″ cable and use the magic loop technique.
To knit the hat using The Petite Wool from We Are Knitters, you will need to use 6mm (US 10) 16″ circular knitting needles.
