An Outlandish Bodice is a corset-style vest in four sizes
This feminine vest brings a little costumery to one’s Autumn wardrobe,
whether Hunting Simples in the forest, Gathering Children from the fair or feasting around the fire.
The Bodice is knit from the bottom up. The sides and back are knitted flat in one piece to the underarm. Front straps and the back are then knitted separately. Stitches are picked up along the front edges and the Bodice fronts are knitted sideways to the centre front. Shoulders are grafted together and the neckline, front edges and armholes are finished with iCord.
For those who love Dress-ups the pattern is readily customised for front lacing over a fancy busk perhaps. There are instructions for an extended peplum frill to accomodate a big skirt and it’s undergarments like bustles, rumps or even bumrolls. For the rest of us, it looks great with jeans.
The two sizes given in the pattern produce garments in 4 sizes by means of needle size combinations. The Bodice pattern can be either styled for maximum negative ease, or none at all with cables simply supplying a natural, form fitting shape.
The pattern can be made in yarns that range between heavy 8ply/DK through to 10ply/Light Worsted. Gauge varies depending on the size followed and the needle size used. This is explored in Tables which explain choices available.
Strong yarns with excellent wear characteristics such as Tweeds and Light Worsteds are preferred, hand-spun is also a wonderful choice.
