This pattern is also available as part of my new e-book Espiral: a progressive Eco-friendly e-book with 5 original shawl designs + 1 bonus pattern (also a shawl design).

Update (18/11/2015): I added a new file (OutonalClassicEdgingEnglish.pdf), for this version I didn’t break the yarn for the knitted-on border and turned the corner with short-rows. More pictures of this version can be found here.

My earlier version was this one. You may choose to knit the one you like most.

Outonal is an unconventional design - an asymmetrical and seamless shawl, knitted bias in one piece. The main body is worked in garter with a lace edging resembling leaves and berries. It starts with a few stitches that gradually increase in number and when you achieve the desired length, a knitted-on border is attached. As you can see for the photos both its lines and colors aren’t, intentionally, very “matchy matchy”.

Size is easily customizable and due to the pattern’s simplicity/ flexibility any weight yarn of your choice, both solid or variegated, works well. As shown used 401.3m (438.9 yds) of Noro Kureyon Sock (fingering weight yarn).

More information:
Materials: 401.3 – 461.4 m (438.9 – 504.7 yds) of fingering yarn; US 4 - 3.5 mm circular needles, tapestry needle; pins for blocking

The pattern st is worked in “true lace”, requiring some attention. Instructions are detailed and some links are provided as well. Wet block the shawl and woven in ends.
