Over Easy is the first delicious design in the “Eggs for Dinner” collection, a series of shawl patterns that are as easy to knit as eggs are to cook, and just as satisfying. With its simple-to-memorize stitch patterns, this shawl is perfect for social knitting: catch up with friends or watch tv and never worry about losing your place. Whether you’re winding down at the end of the day or looking for your next low-stress knit, Over Easy is a low-pressure comfort knit that still feels rewarding.
Simple construction: The shawl starts by casting on just a few stitches and grows to an asymmetrical bias triangle.
Detailed, easy to follow instructions: The stitch patterns have short repeats so that they are easy to follow and memorize, and the pattern includes close-up photos of each stitch.
Stitch counts are provided throughout so you can make sure you are on track at any point.
… with helpful tips: The pattern includes instructions for corrected a missed yarn over (we all make mistakes!) and instructions and links for fixing a dropped edge stitch and using lifelines, which make it much easier to go back and fix your knitting, if necessary.
This pattern has been tech edited and test knitted to give you a smooth, error-free knitting experience. Appropriate for advanced beginners and beyond.
There are instructions for making a larger shawl, if you like.
Yarn: Fingering/sock-weight yarn in two colors, approximately 70 grams/275 yards/250 meters of color 1 (gray in the sample) and 90 grams/355 yards/325 meters of color 2 (light green in the sample)
- Fiber types: Wool and wool-blend yarns, including such fibers as bamboo, cotton, silk, or nylon, would work well here. The simple stitch patterns will look great with solids or tonals, but also let you highlight a densely speckled or highly variegated yarn.
Needles: US 7/4.5 mm or size needed to achieve gauge. The shawl is worked flat. It is possible to knit the shawl entirely on straight needles, but it will be more comfortable to use a long circular needle so that the stitches can spread out as the shawl grows.
Notions: Tapestry needle to weave in ends.
