This is a pinwheel shawl pattern for standard gauge knitting machines. It is a large shawl, measuring around 150cm across and 70cm deep. It is a little over a half circle in shape with some pleasant pinwheel effects.

The pattern is a modular, join-as-you-go type. You start by making one triangle and pick up stitches to make the next part. It is finished off with a nice pie-crust edging.

This is very easy to resize to what you’d like by simply using a different number of needles. I haven’t tested it, but you could also use other machines of different gauges to create the same shawl in different yarns by varying the number of needles.

You’ll need:

  • a knitting machine (you could do this by hand if you really wanted to)
  • transfer tools for your machine highly recommended for this shawl
  • 6 colours of yarn for the main shawl (approx 200 - 250 metres of each colour)
  • 1 colour of yarn for the edging (approx 80 - 100 metres)
  • darning needle for sewing ends in
