About:
The Owengowla Cowl is the sister design to the Owengowla Hat and is named after the river that flows near my Grandmother’s homestead in County Galway, Ireland. This bubbling waterway is a vital resource to the small village regardless of the time of year, and you can often see different colored stones peeking through the rushing water. Depending on the time of day and the way the light plays on the water, they appear to be different colors which gave me the inspiration to play with all of the different options in this versatile cowl.

Winter often brings with it colder temps and grey days so I designed this worsted weight cowl to add color and warmth to your days. It’s suitable for a confident beginner but engaging enough for a more advanced one. It’s a quick stash busting project available in one size, with charts for 2-5 contrasting colors. Whether you knit one for yourself or make several to gift, it’s surely a cowl to brighten someone’s day.

Needle:
US 8 (5.0 mm), 16” (40 cm) circular needle or needles needed to get gauge.

Suggested Yarn: 
Malabrigo Rios, Worsted weight, 1 skein100% Pure Merino Superwash wool; 210 yards (190 m)/ 100 grams or any worsted weight yarn of your choosing.

Cascade 220, Worsted weight, 1 skein100% Peruvian Highland wool; 220 yards (200 m)/100 grams or any worsted weight yarn of your choosing

Universal Yarns, Deluxe Worsted, Worsted weight, 1 skein100% wool; 220 yards (200 m)/100 grams or any worsted weight yarn of your choosing.

Two-color sample knit in Malabrigo Rios, Worsted weight, uses colors Natural and Pearl, approx. 100 yards (91 m) for MC, and 80 yards (73 m) for CC.

Note: If you are making the three-color, four-color or five-color versions, the CC yardage will be slightly higher to account for ends that need to be woven in.

Gauge: 20 stitches/24 rounds = 4” (10 cm) square in colorwork using US 8 (5.0 mm) needles or whatever size needle gives you the fabric you would like.

Other Notions: Darning needle, stitch markers.
