OzzieZoo
Australia is home to an excess of endemic and many marsupial species. These unique animals are utterly fascinating and fun! There’s the platypus, a mammal that lays eggs! If you were to put a duck, a beaver and an otter in a blender, this is what might come out! The Tasmanian devil is a fierce and ferocious critter with shockingly strong jaws, that can deliver the strongest bite-for-size of any mammal in the world! And wombat poo is shaped like cubes!
There are eight beautiful animals included in this pattern: the wombat, koala, crocodile, platypus, Tasmanian devil, the rock wallaby, the dingo and the fairy penguin. As a bonus there’s a set of three parrots.
These animals make fun hanging ornaments, for example as a crib mobile.
Each animal is a small project, to be finished in an evening or so, knitted on 1.25 mm double pointed needles (UK 18, US 0000) in Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat. All can be done in heavier yarn, on thicker needles and the animals will turn out somewhat larger.
Only small amounts of yarns are needed, so these critters are a great project to use up any scraps you have lying around.
These animals are medium difficult, knitted flat with some short rows, i-cords, intarsia color work and some stitching and embroidering.
Stitching together, stuffing and kneading the animals into shape can be a little fiddly and takes a bit of time and patience, but the end result will be worth it!
So, kick off your knit and enjoy crafting these curious, colorful creatures! Viv
