The finished bird, when worked in 4ply yarn, will measure approximately 11cm high and 18cm beak to tail. This will of course vary with weights of yarn and hook/tension. For a larger bird work in double knit, aran or chunky but the results may not be the same.

Materials
I used Scheepjes Catona yarn and for the purpose of this pattern I have described the colours as for the green budgie.
Green Budgie 6g of Snow White (106), 16g of Kiwi (205) and Primrose (522), 5g of Light Navy (164), 1g of Topaz (179), Delphinium (113) and Jet Black (110).
Blue Budgie 8g of Snow White (106), Bluebird (247) and10g of Blue Bell (173). 6g of Mercury (074), 1g of Topaz (179), Delphinium (113) and Jet Black (110).
You can obviously use any colours or brand you fancy but the results will be different. You can make this in any weight yarn, using the smallest hook you can manage, but again the size of the end result will differ. Mercerised cotton yarn prevents too much stretch so the stuffing doesn’t show, plus it isn’t fluffy so the pattern of the African Flower shape shows more clearly. Scheepjes Catona is my all time favourite yarn for these birds.
I used a 2mm crochet hook, a long darning needle, toy stuffing
10mm safety eyes, stitch markers and dressmakers pins.
