Pale Sky Shawl
The Pale Sky Shawl is a large triangular crochet shawl worked in linen stitch, designed to showcase softly graduated colour and the natural character of wool yarn.
The shawl is worked from the centre back outward, with a simple four-stitch increase on every row, making it an ideal relaxing project suitable for beginners as well as experienced makers who enjoy meditative stitching.
The sample was made using sport-weight Scottish lambswool, with a neutral main colour and five accent shades arranged in a gentle gradient inspired by winter skies over the Cairngorms.
Finished size:
Wingspan approx. 207 cm (81 in) excluding fringe
Depth approx. 98 cm (38.5 in) excluding fringe
Fringe length approx. 10–11 cm after trimming
Materials:
• 300 g sport weight yarn for main colour
• Five mini skeins (20–25 g each) for gradient accents
• 4.5 mm crochet hook
• Stitch marker
• Tapestry needle for finishing
This pattern works well with wool, wool blends, or any yarn with good drape. Natural shades and subtle colour transitions will give the best effect, but the design can be adapted to any colour palette.
