Just before the Covid-19 quarantine started in the US I moved out of my apartment. As I got rid of old things, moved things into my new place, and started decorating I decided I needed a nice lumbar pillow.

I didn’t want the pillow to be a solid color, I wanted a little more design flair. However, I also wanted something that didn’t make me think too much since I was getting stressed out from my job in the healthcare industry. I needed a project that would bring me into a meditative place.

The diagonal banding in this pillow is formed using a mosaic method so there’s no need to carry the yarn making it an excellent project for those wanting to play with two color knits but worry about the technicalities of using two colors. Instead of carrying the yarn like in fair isle, you just slip the stitch and keep on going. Too bad all color work can’t be this easy!

This pattern will help you create a 12x18 pillow.

I bought a nice pillow insert from Amazon that was 14x20” (link at end of project). For a really nice “stuffed” looking throw pillow, buy a pillow insert that’s about 2” taller/wider than the pillow case.
