A pattern to knit a small round drawstring pouch featuring a repeat paw print design. My inspiration was a card sent to me with an order of yarn that I’d purchased from the fabulous Border Tart, which featured a photograph of the paw print of her much loved and missed Midge. The first sample shown used leftovers from a project using her yarn (Longwool Mitts). A finished pouch with beads and closure, weighs only around 20g, so the pattern is ideal for using up leftovers from other projects.

A note on gauge: I found this could vary slightly, depending on the yarn used and my knitting mood!, but it isn’t an issue with this project.

The bag is knit from the bottom up, starting with Judy’s Magic Cast on, and increasing every other round to create the circular base. A round of garter stitch separates the base from the charted paw prints in stranded colour work.

Instead of making eyelet holes for the cord or ribbon closure, I devised a way of making a channel within the knitting, by using the double-sided knitting technique, and this is continued up to the picot cast off, making a neat two-sided frilly top for the pouch to which beads could be added if desired.

When finished and full, the pouch stands approximately 3 1/2” tall, when knitted in 4ply yarn on 2mm and 2.25mm needles.
