Pennsylvania Beanie
Did you know that Pennsylvania has more covered bridges than any other state? The nostalgic charm of these bridges evokes a sense of a bygone era. It’s estimated that more than 10,000 covered bridges were built across the US by the late 1870s with roughly 600 still standing today. Around 200 of these are in Pennsylvania. Covering a wooden bridge not only made it look more attractive, it also offered protection from rain and snow, prolonging the life of the bridge by decades. As a bonus, these sturdy structures also served as shelters for weary travelers or livestock…or a great location to meet up with a friend.
This design captures the nostalgic scene of covered bridges across a meandering river on a sunny autumn day.
