Inspiration for this design came from working with a hand dyed yarn where the skein was primarily one colour, but it also had a very short colour repeat of a contrasting colour. I tried to come up with something that is a good weekend project that does not require a lot of counting or a lot of fussing.

Because the yarn is so soft and drapey the hat can stretch to accommodate larger head sizes and / or for people who have a lot of hair (like me!).

This pattern will also work with fingering weight sock yarn.

I have added beads to the bottom edge of the hat to give it a bit of weight and just a touch of sparkle.

One advantage of the design is that you can try it on as you knit along to make sure the hat is fitting just right!
