Percival Pig is a great pattern for a competent crochet beginner.

Percy can be made in any weight yarn with different sized crochet hooks. The pattern includes a size chart. Percy has been pictured in 4-ply, DK and Chunky to give an idea of how the yarn weight can alter the size.

He would make a great present for someone who loves pigs. You could even make the tiny pig into a key ring.

Percy can be made using 50 g ball of 4 ply and 100 g ball of DK or Chunky (UK terms). You will probably have some yarn left over. The size depends on the type of yarn, hook and tension. You may need to experiment with the hook size in order to get stitches that are close together to ensure the stuffing is not visible. Here are some approximate sizes:

4-ply yarn, 2 mm hook = 2.5” x 2” x 2.5” (6.5 cm x 5 cm x 6.5 cm)
Double Knit yarn, 3 mm hook = 4” x 3” x 3.5” (10 cm x 7.5 cm x 9 cm)
Chunky yarn, 4 mm hook = 5” x 4” x 4.5” (13 cm x 10 cm x 11.5 cm)

  • 1 x crochet hook of your chosen size
  • One ball of yarn of your chosen weight and colour
  • A small amount of black yarn for nose slots (and eyes if required)
  • 2 x 6 mm snap-on safety eyes
  • Toy stuffing
  • Darning needle and scissors
  • This is not suitable for children under 3
  • Please ensure you use safety eyes and that the stuffing is not poking through any holes
  • Please also make sure the nose, ears and tail are sewn on firmly
