Percy the Pumpkin Decoration
A free version is also available.
Percy the Pumpkin is a quick and easy Halloween decoration with rosy cheeks and a little hanging loop. He works up fast, so he’s perfect for last-minute Halloween crocheting, and he looks just as cute hanging from a door handle as he does on the mantelpiece or your Christmas tree… I mean Halloween tree!
Percy is made from two flat pieces worked in rows, then joined by crocheting around the edge and stuffing as you go. If you’ve made Francis the Monster or Gwin the Ghost, you’ll recognise the construction, as all three are made the same way. They look lovely displayed together as a spooky little set, or on their own.
You’ll find more detailed information about the crochet pattern below.

Finished size
Using the yarn and hook specified in this pattern, my creation was 10cm / 3.9” long, 4cm / 1.6” wide and 12cm / 4.7” high (including the hanging loop).
Materials needed
- Yarn: Light Worsted/DK
- Crochet hook: 2.5mm (C)
- Recommended Yarn: Rico Design Ricorumi DK (100% Cotton) in Orange (17 grams = 43 yards), Green (2 grams = 5 yards), Pink (1 gram = 2.5 yards) and Black (1 gram = 2.5 yards).
Other supplies:
- Stuffing
- Needle
- Scissors
- Pins
- Stitch markers x 2
- Black embroidery thread
- Scrap of white DK yarn (for the eye highlights)
Gauge
Gauge is not required for this pattern, however keep your tension tight and consistent throughout. For reference, my gauge was:
7 sc stitches on 2.5cm / 1”
7 rows on 2.5cm / 1”
Pattern Notes
- All parts are worked back and forth in rows unless stated otherwise.
- Place a stitch marker at the start of each row.
- Use a smaller hook than the yarn label recommends so your stuffing doesn’t show through the stitches.
- The hanging loop length can be adjusted to suit where you’d like to hang Percy.
- Yarn colour, weight and fibre can be customised, but make sure you change your hook size to suit the yarn you use. This will also affect the final size of your pumpkin decoration.
