The Peru Headband is a Fair Isle Colourwork outdoor Headband with a traditional Peruvian motif of interlocking flowers. The headband is knit flat and seamed to form a loop. If using a slightly finer yarn, instructions are given for adding a button band (see pictures for an example).

Instructions are given for shaded flowers (in three complimentary shades) or a single block of colour for the flowers. The headband is knit in 4-ply (fingering-weight) sock wool using 3.25 mm (UK 10, US 3) knitting needles. There are full written instructions and a chart for the colourwork section.

MATERIALS
1 100g ball of West Yorkshire Spinners Signature 4-ply in a background colour and 1 100g ball in a contrasting colour (75% wool - 25% nylon, 400 m/437 yrds per 100g) *
A pair of 3.25 mm knitting needles (UK 10, US 3)
A tapestry needle
(for button-fastened headband) three buttons

** if using more than two colours use the same weight of yarn e.g. another sock yarn with the same suggested tension over 10 cm square.

TECHNIQUES
Casting on and off, Fair Isle - following a colourwork chart, K2 P2 Rib, Stocking Stitch, (optional) button holes, garter stitch (knit every row).

MEASUREMENTS
If using West Yorkshire Spinners Signature 4-ply wool, the headband will measure 25 cm (10“) wide when laid flat, 51 cm (20“ ) total length and 10 cm (4“) wide. There is some stretch (negative ease).

VARIATION
Instructions are given detailing how to extend the length of the headband with a garter stitch button band.
