PETER THE PUP KNITTING PATTERN

Peter is a puppy shaped cushion to cuddle on the sofa.

The pup is knitted in “reverse stockinette stitch”, so the bumpy purl side of the work is the right side, and the smooth knit side is the wrong side. This gives a lovely cuddly texture and colour pattern. The nose and tail are knitted separately and sewn on.

I have used 4 different colours to knit the striped body, but you could knit in one colour if you prefer.

ABOUT THE PATTERN: The pattern has row numbers for each step so you don’t lose your place, instructions for making the puppy, a list of abbreviations and a materials list. The pattern is 4 pages and written in English.

TECHNIQUES: All pieces are knitted flat (back and forth) on a pair of straight knitting needles. You need to know how to knit, purl, increase and decrease, knit stripes (change colour at the end of a row) and do some seaming.

YOU WILL NEED:

  • A pair of straight 4mm knitting needles (US 6)
  • DK weight (light worsted, 8 ply) acrylic yarn; less than 35g in each colour
  • Toy filling
  • A stitch holder
  • Wobbly eyes
