The Pic ‘n’ Vic socks pay homage to London Underground’s iconic moquette seat patterns, inviting you to pick ‘n’ mix any shades and charts to craft these playful socks.

Nicole’s colourwork motifs were inspired by the Piccadilly and Victoria lines which beautifully capture both sides of London, from its charming historical sights to its vibrant, cosmopolitan districts.

Exmoor Sock and Devonia 4ply are ideal yarns for this fun and colourful design. The only limit is your imagination!

Designed to be worn with 2.5cm / 1” of negative ease on both foot circumference and foot length, to ensure a good fit.

Gauge
Measured over both colourwork and one-colour Stocking Stitch pattern, after blocking: 32 sts x 38 rnds = 10cm / 4” square

Needles
Double-pointed or circular knitting needles, suitable for working small circumferences in the round:
2.75mm (UK 12 / US 2) for colourwork Stocking Stitch
2.25mm (UK 13 / US 1) for one-colour Stocking Stitch

Always use a needle size that results in the correct gauge after blocking.

Pattern Notes
This sock is knitted cuff down with a short row heel and rounded toe. Toe stitches are grafted to finish. You can mix and match four different colourwork charts for the leg, with short and long leg options. Hold your upper and lower colours consistently
as you knit the colourwork; the colour that is stranded underneath the other will appear as the dominant colour.
Catch floats every 5-6 stitches and, if possible, catch them above a stitch of the same colour to avoid them showing
through. Alternatively, manage long floats using the Ladderback Jacquard technique.

To prevent your colourwork from being too tight, for colourwork rounds keep your floats loose, spread out the stitches on the needle as you work (so the yarn travels further), or work inside-out. Foot and leg lengths are adjustable, but changes will affect the amount of yarn used.
