This is a written pattern for a doll featuring many pictures and including a written pattern for the doll’s flower petal dress. Also included are written/picture tutorials for a “magic circle” cast on for knitting, and a provisional cast on using a crochet chain. The fairy’s body and head are knit up in one piece starting at the base, with the arms and legs knit separately and then sewn on later.

I knit my dolls double stranded, making the stitches tight and the end product strong and durable. This is optional, but be aware that your finished product will differ in size and stability if you choose to knit single stranded.

I highly recommend using cotton yarn (especially if giving the finished product to a child) as it is washable and versatile. Acrylic yarns can be used, but I have found that they do not hold up to time and use as well as cotton.

Supplies

·Worsted Weight 100% Cotton Yarn in 4 colors. 2 skeins for main color and 1 skein each for contrasting colors. (For doll in the illustrations, I used 2 skeins of Paintbox Yarns 100% Cotton Yarn (worsted weight) in “Coffee Bean” for main color, and less than 1 skein each of Peaches & Creme 100% Cotton Yarn in colors “Red”, “Gold”, and “Sage”.)

·Extra yarn for hair. Amount will depend on how long/full you’d like your doll’s hair to be.

·4 Double Point Needles (DPNs) to obtain correct gauge. I used US size 5, 3.75 mm.

·1 Crochet hook, of same or comparable size to your DPNs

·Yarn needle

·Stitch markers, for marking beginning of round (optional)

·Safety Eyes, optional. You may choose to use black yarn and embroider the eyes on for a more baby friendly option.

·Poly-fil - the amount needed will depend on the size of doll you create
