I came up with this pattern after a lot of trial and error. This entailed using different types of yarn with cast on stitches in addition to a pattern that has a proper stitch repeat that creates a hat that fits all. This hat uses a 32-stitch repeat rather than a much smaller stitch repeat. While 32 does not go evenly into 156 stitches, it does into 160 (5 times) and is what is used for this pattern. After knitting the brim/liner portion, I immediately reduce down to 156 stitches by knitting down by 4 stitches evenly. This hat has a domed look because the stitch reductions are done in a very tight repeat pattern (26 sections) and maintains the same number of sections over the entirety of the hat. This is unusual because other patterns vary the sections. It maintains the 26 sections over the stitch reduction (within the 6,5,4,3,2 stitch totals in each of the 26 sections of the hat/crown). This results in a more gradual tapering throughout the hat and crown. The gradualness of the taper also has to do with the fact that you knit several rounds in between each reduction. This is a one-size-fits-all hat. Materials needed: One ball each of Silken and Super Pink Bamboo Pop by Universal Yarn and 1 skein of Orchid Caron Simply Soft 6-oz.; two US 4 16-inch circular needles, one US 3 16-inch circular needle, one US 3 29- to 40-inch circular needle (for “magic loop”) or double-point needles (DPNs); a tapestry needle to weave in ends and to attach faux-fur Chinchilla hair pompom; for pompom: faux Chinchilla fur, cotton thread, sewing needle, polyester fill, sewing needle.
