About This Design
Why not take this little project for a twirl? This baby/toddler beanie is a quick 8 ply/double knit project that will fly off your needles. Sized for newborns up to toddlers, I’m sure there is a little one in your family who will wear this beanie with a happy smile.

Size
To fit 35.5, 40.5, 46 and 48.2 cm/14, 16, 18, and 19-inch head circumference (newborn baby, baby to 6 months, baby 6-12 months and toddler to 3 years). The finished beanie includes negative ease to ensure a snug fit. Instructions for the larger sizes are shown in brackets.

Tension
23 stitches x 34 rows over 10 cm/4 inches in modified beaded rib stitch, knitted in the round using 4.00 mm (US size 6, UK size 8) needles. A close match for tension is important for this pattern in order to ensure a good fit. Please move up or down a needle size and swatch one more time if your gauge does not match.

Yarn
Approximately 25 (30, 35, 40)g of any double-knit/8-ply yarn that knits to match the required gauge using yarn that is approximately 145 m/159 yds per 50g.

The sample Pirouette Beanies have been knitted with Naturally Yarns, Harmony Colour and Colour Tweed double knit/8 ply 100% ultra-fine merino in lilac pink (shade 53), scarlet tweed (shade 30), cerise (shade 50) and purple tweed (shade 32). This butter-soft, single-ply, ultra-fine merino yarn has sadly been discontinued. If you are lucky, you might be able to find some precious balls in online stores. Otherwise, you should check out the yarnsub.com website. Other equally soft and airy double-knit/8-ply yarns are also suitable, if they produce the required tension gauge.

Needles
3.75 mm (US size 5, UK size 9) 40 cm/16-inch circular needles and/or double pointed needles.
4.00 mm (US size 6, UK size 8) 40 cm/16-inch circular needles and/or double pointed needles.

Notions
Tapestry/darning needle and a removable stitch marker.
