I first came across a cowl similar to this one on YouTube at vivirtejiendo: “Cuello Bufanda con Trenza” (Neck Scarf with Braids). I’m always looking for opportunities to practice my Spanish language skills, so watched and knitted along my first version (white yarn) with the video. I didn’t really like the way the decreases were done, so modified them as I knitted. The next cowl had a few more modifications. Finally, my friend Liz Hymens knitted up her version (a bit larger than mine) with some verbal instructions from me and a quick study of the cowls I had knitted, using some super bulky, variegated yarn she had on hand. She posted a photo in one of her Facebook groups and within a couple of hours had over 700 likes and many requests for the pattern. I immediately sat down and wrote out the pattern. Enjoy!

Yardage note: You need two skeins of the Lion Brand yarn. It’s not quite 200 yards but is plenty. If you’re holding two strands of worsted weight yarn together, you need twice as much.
