Aran weight hat with snowflake colorwork motif.

It’s designed to be warm and quick to make. A nice little treat for yourself when the weather is cold.

Beginning with a long-tail cast-on, Polar Morning is worked in the round, from the bottom-up ribbed brim. The body is worked in Stockinette Stitch, using two colors to create the motifs.

Solid and contrasting colors work best to highlight the design. I chose a natural color paired with purple to show off the playful, cute details.

Colorwork is charted only.

Finished circumference (unstretched, taken above the rib): 21” (53 cm)
To be worn with up to 2” (5 cm) of negative ease.
Height: 9” (23 cm)

YARN
Aran weight yarn, approximate amount:

• Main Color: 160 yards (146 meters) in purple.
• Contrasting Color: 60 yards (55 meters) in white.

Shown in Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran (55% Wool Merino, 33% Acrylic, 12% Cashmere; 98 yds (90 m) / 50 g). Main Color: Purple: 2 balls. Contrasting Color: Natural: 1 ball.

NEEDLES
US 7 (4.5 mm) and US 5 (3.75 mm) knitting needles suitable for working small circumferences in the round.
Needle size is suggested only, you will need to swatch to determine the needle size needed to achieve gauge.

NOTIONS
Stitch markers and tapestry needle.

GAUGE
19 sts and 21 rows = 4” 10 cm over stranded colorwork pattern in the round on US 7 (4.5 mm) needles after blocking.
Before you measure, please take the time to wash and block your swatch in the same manner that you will wash and block your hat.
