A stunning piece designed by Mary Card in the 1930s. This is the centerpiece for the Pond Lily Luncheon Set. Originally intended to be worked in #80 or #100 thread.

I re-charted this so that it could be in digital form. The chart starts in the center so you will only decrease in this version of the Pond Lily Centerpiece. Other parts have been changed to make the pattern easier but the integrity of the original design has been maintained. The pattern now flows smoother.

This is a large chart. I split it but it is still very large. You may find it easier to see some parts of the chart by zooming in using Adobe Reader.

This pattern can be worked by anyone who knows how to do the basic filet stitches of open block, solid block, lacet, and decrease.

You can use a fancy form of the lacet or the standard lacet. Follow the instructions and make your choice.

This pattern is not intended as a filet tutorial but i does have complete stitch descriptions and tips on how to do filet.

I worked this in US #30 weight thread. It can be worked in any weight thread. If you choose to work it in a larger size thread then it will require more yardage.

Please be aware that thread weights in different countries are NOT the same as US thread weights.

The pattern has written instructions for the first 2 rows to get you started and then you work from charts.

You can use any weight thread and any size hook that you are comfortable with using.

I like using the smallest hook that I am comfortable with the thread that I am using because this keeps my filet tight and firm. You can use larger hooks and your piece will be just as beautiful - it will take more thread and be larger in size.

Hooks used for US #30 weight crochet cotton
US Size 13 or 0.85 mm
US Size 12 or 0.75 mm for foundation row

Additional Tools
Small Tapestry Needle for weaving in ends
Stitch Markers - I use one stitch marker on the right side of my work to correspond with the right side of the chart.
