Our Caernarfon Cushions were designed for Wonderwool 2022. We took inspiration from traditional woven Welsh blankets, the Caernarfon design in particular.

For 2025, we decided to simplify the cushions a little by deconstructing our original, offering an easier way into these iconic designs.

By isolating each of the motifs in the Caernarfon design, we have created four different designs, the first of which is the Portcullis Cushion launched at Wonderwool 2025.

The cushion takes app 450m of main colour and app 80m of the contrast. Our sample is knitted in Special DK but WYS Wool Revival or WYS ColourLab would also be ideal.

I used this project to have a go at ladderback jacquard which works really well if there is high contrast between the colours as it stops them bleeding through to the front as they can do when catching floats.

The finished size is 45cm x 45cm.
