This curvy little seahorse is quick to make and just as cute as the real thing. It can be made in different weights of yarn or thread and in any color you want. I recommend staying away from especially fluffy yarns. It does not use much material, so it is perfect for using up leftovers. You could make yourself a whole herd of different seahorses. In sport weight the finished seahorse ends up about 5 and 1⁄2 inches (14 centimeters).

It uses post stitches not only to give it form, but also texture and enough internal structure that it does not need any stuffing!

Instructions are included for using 6mm safety eyes, but beads or small buttons could be substituted, or eyes could be embroidered on to make it safe for young children. Three locking stitch markers are used in the pattern. Stitches are referred to by their US
names, and each stitch is described in the Glossary.

This pattern includes two sets of instructions, one for the smooth version, and one for the spiny one. Features of the two can be mixed so you can make a variety of different seahorses.

The construction method used in this pattern is not difficult, but it is usual and a bit idiosyncratic. This pattern is recommended for intermediate crocheters, but I have attempted to explain the pattern in full, and adventurous crocheters should consider undertaking it.
