This beautiful owl is called Eugen. A great motif for potholders where he likes to protect your hands from excessive heat. The potholder is knitted using the double face technique and is therefore beautiful on both sides. A real ornament for any kitchen. It would make a great gift for the next invitation to a fine meal, wouldn’t it?

As the stitch sequence is completely written out in the instructions, even beginners can really score points with this project using the double face technique. For total beginners who have just fallen in love with this motif, I recommend my free basic tutorial on the double face technique. You can find the basic tutorial in my store under: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/double-knitted-c.... Anyone who has mastered the exercises from my basis tutorial can definitely try their hand at this project. For the more advanced among you, the instructions also include a counting pattern. I hope you enjoy knitting this project.

Owl Eugen is also available as a relief pattern on a washcloth. It is knitted with knit and purl stitches only. You can find the instructions for this in my store at:
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/washcloth---dish...

Stitch Gauge:
Knitted in double face: 26 stitches = 10 cm wide. 36 rows = 10 cm high.
With this gauge, the potholder measures approx. 21.5 cm x approx. 21.5 cm.

Material:
• Katia Capri, 100% cotton, 50g = approx. 125m.
• 50g in ecru and 50g in petrol (or in your desired colors). I used a total of 30g per color. However, the amount needed may vary a little depending on your personal knitting style. You can also use a different cotton with a similar yardage.
• Knitting needles no. 2
• Crochet hook no. 3
• Sewing needle
• Scissors

Knowledge required:
• Stitch cast-on
• Cast off
• Knitting knit and purl stitches
• Crochet chain stitches for the (optional) hanger

What you will get:
You will receive a 9-page instruction with a row-by-row description of the potholder. The instructions also include a clear counting pattern for the potholder. The double face technique itself is not explained in these instructions. You can find a basic tutorial in double face knitting here: https://www.crazypatterns.net/en/items/97086/double-face-...
