An easy hat pattern, knit in the round from the ribbed brim to the top.
Designed to fit the tiny preemies, approx. 9” to 12” head circumference which is about 1 to 3 lbs.
I used a very soft sport wt yarn and size 4 magic loop needle. It can also be worked on dpn’s if you choose.
Hat starts with 4 rows of ribbing, a row of eyelets where you can thread some 1/8” ribbon through if desired.
I also found tiny heart beads which I added to the ribbon.
Small heart motifs are then worked in purl sts- row by row is written out in pattern. Decrease rows are worked in stockinette.

I also worked up a sample in DK wt using the med/lg pattern and it will fit about 12-14” head, so if you need graduating sizes as the little one grows, you can use the same pattern, just change yarn wt, needle size, etc.
This works up very quickly, perfect for charity work for your local hospital’s NICU.
