This pattern was created in response to a challenge from Sunflower Cottage Crochet to create a pattern suitable for a donation to a NICU or other preemie charity. Many centers have restrictions on the size of blanket you can donate (example, it must be less than 30”). Make sure you do a gauge swatch if your finished piece needs to be a certain size.

See my blog for more information on the promotion (which has ended now: 977 free patterns were downloaded!)

My patterns can be made using the interlocking crochet method (what I call Locked Filet Mesh/LFM) or mosaic crochet. I use single-row mosaic (overlay mosaic crochet).

There is one file for the interlocking crochet technique and one file for the overlay mosaic crochet technique.

Both files have the fully written pattern for right-handed crocheters, then left-handed crocheters. Then you’ll find the instructions for reading charts & the charts after that.

There is a single-page chart best for viewing on a screen and then a multi-page chart for printing. The mosaic charts have X’s.
_____

Both types of crochet work with one color at a time in alternating rows to create the design.

Interlocking crochet uses only chain spaces and double crochets to create a mesh; the “wrong” side is sometimes as pretty as the front.

Mosaic crochet uses single crochet and double crochet stitches. The double crochet stitches cover some of the other color’s single crochet stitches to create the design. My patterns instruct you to cut your yarn at the end of each row. The back is striped but often gives a faint impression of the pattern on the front (sort of like illusion knitting). See an example here.

I have YouTube tutorials available for both crochet methods! Follow this link to get to my YouTube channel and find my other social links: https://ashleeslint.com/link-in-bio.
