Project Bag Packed with Techniques
Meet your next favourite knitting adventure: a bottom-up project bag that’s as clever as it is cute! Start with your stitches already on the needles using Judy’s Magic Cast-On, then work back and forth to create a neat rectangle base. Next, pick up stitches along the sides and you’re ready to knit the body in the round using the magic loop method—perfect for starting from the base upward.
The body of the bag is all about stripes and texture: begin with a mosaic stripe, add a plain stripe, then work a two-stitch mosaic stripe finished with touches of duplicate stitch for an extra pop of detail. Once your bag reaches the perfect height, you’ll create a neat opening for the drawstring, fold over the hem, and finish it all off with a knitted i-cord drawstring. You can make your i-cord using double-pointed needles or an i-cord maker if you fancy a speedy finish.
Designed with adventurous beginners in mind, this project is packed with exciting techniques to try, including Judy’s Magic Cast-On, mosaic knitting, duplicate stitch, folded hems, and i-cords. Even better, purchasing this pattern also gives you access to our Lessons Land 4-week course, allowing you to knit along at your own pace with extra support and guidance throughout the project.
And because we love seeing handmade creations out in the wild, this pattern is not copyright restricted—you’re very welcome to make and sell bags created from this design. We’d just love a little credit for the pattern where possible!
