“O beautiful for spacious skies, For amber waves of grain, For purple mountain majesties…” lyrics taken right out of the patriotic song by Katharine Lee Bates in the 1800s as she was inspired by the natural beauty of the changing American landscape on a cross-country train ride. This variegated purple crescent shaped lace shawlette features a pretty lace border that looks like a row of majestic mountains stretching its length. It is knit with only 1 skein of pure Merino Wool DK weight yarn in Malabrigo Rastita (310 yards) in the shade of Sabiduria, which has subtle color variations that add interest to the project, and is slightly felted for soft texture. It has a “wingspan” of just over about 6 feet…plenty of room to wrap around your shoulders or neck as either a shawl or a scarf and is just under a foot wide at its widest center point. The lace forms an elegant lace pattern that scallops on the edge. It is machine washable (delicate cycle, separately, re-pin to shape flat to dry). It is knit from the bottom up, starting with the lace border, and then short rows make up the body of the shawlette in garter stitch and give it its easy-to-wear crescent shape. Quick to knit up, and even more fun to accessorize with!
