Rafa Cosplay Mask
Sponsored by: 2k
Borderlands fans unite! Bring chaos to life with this fun and fully customizable Rafa Mask. This pattern allows you to customize everything, with yarn, patience and a little rebellious energy. Designed to balance structure, comfort and character, this piece is perfect for cosplay, conventions, display art or just pure fiber fun.
There are a few things needed for this mask, as we go through the build there will be notes, suggestions and options.
• This pattern is for the intermediate to experienced crocheter. Or a very brave newbie.
• Please read through the entire pattern before starting.
• I do NOT explain how to do the stitches. So, if there is something new to you, please research it.
• There will be a gauge to match in the pattern piece. I do crochet on the tight side: this is something I want you to be aware of. To change hook size to match gauge size. It is ok if you are a little off gauge: for example, 1/4” but if you are 2” over, I would change hook sizes.
• I am VERY literal when crocheting.
• If you have questions, please reach out! I’m more than happy to help.
There will be photos to help clarify any possible questions.
MATERIALS NEEDED:
• Red heart supersaver: Base Color (cream) - 2 skeins
• Red heart supersaver: Black accents - Less than a skein
• Red heart supersaver: Blue accent- Less than a skein
OPTION: If you want to use felt fabric, puff paint (glow would be fun!)
• G Hook
• Stitch Markers
• Row Counter- Not needed but extremely helpful.
• Sewing needle: to sew pieces together and hide ties.
• Black tulle fabric: layering 7-14 pieces of black tulle fabric for the size of the visor.
• OPTION: Tinted plastic vinyl for the visor: approximately 12x 12 to cut down to size and sew in.
• Extra pins/needles to pin pieces in place for sewing.
• Scissors- For trimming yarn, not a weapon, unless the yarns starts fighting back.
• Stuffing/ Fiberfil: a small amount for the air filters, so fluffy.
• 1: 1 ¼” rectangle metal strap adjuster with slide bar. This will be for the back strap to hold the mask on.
• OPTIONAL: needle felting details, glow in the dark yarn, felt fabric, a foam head to help with placement, wire brush for making your own roving for needle felting. Hot glue gun for gluing in tulle or felt if you don’t want to sew items.
