“Rainbird” is a sweater with ¾ dolman sleeves and lace inserts in triangle shape at front and back neck and the sidelines. It is recommended to use a drapey blend with a bit of linen, hemp or silk – or maybe even a yarn combination with Silk Mohair?

The sweater is worked top-down, starting at the shoulders, first back and forth in rows. As soon as the armholes are finished, pieces are joined to work in the round. For the sleeves, stitches are being picked up from the edges, so it is completely seamless.

“Rainbird” is intended for rainy days or autumn. If, however, you prefer a bigger neck, follow additional instructions for a summer version called “Sunbird”.

Yarn & gauge
Needles: Main needle size is 3,0mm; 2,75mm needle for edges.
Gauge: 26 sts x 36 rows in Stockinette, 24 sts x 38 rows in Elfin Lace.
Approx. 1200/ 1300/ 1400/ 1500/ 1600 m of a (Light) Fingering weight needed.
For my sample (in size M), I have used Yundi & Grete HEMPels (80% wool, 20% hemp, 400m/ 100g).

The sweater is intended to be worn with a lot of ease at bust. Pick your size based on the measurements for waist and hips. Worked at a gauge of 24 sts, the piece will become approx. 1 size bigger (and the neck will become 2cm wider).
