This beautiful pullover was inspired by the gorgeous colours of the rainbow and the rain as shown by the fairisle detail which looks like rainbow rain drops. This design is part of a collection of four patterns with the Rainbow Drops motif (which includes leg warmers, hand warmers, pullover, and cowl).

This is a great fairisle beginner project with the simple fair isle chart with no more than two different colours worked per round.

The pullover is knitted in the round with 5mm (8US) needles from the bottom up in separate pieces (body and sleeves) until the chest and then the front and back are worked flat to create the armholes. Lastly the sleeves are sewn into the body and shoulder seams sewn.

The pattern includes instructions for seven sizes: X-Small, Small, Medium, Large, X-Large, XX-Large, and XXX-Large. The corresponding blocked bust measurements for these sizes are: 36 (40, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60)”.

The sample is knit with worsted weight, Rios, Malabrigo (100% Superwash Merino Wool, worsted), 100 grams/192m (210 yards) per skein, skeins in:

  • 3 (3, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6) skeins of Liquidambar (618), Contrast Colour (CC)
  • 3 (3, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6) skeins of Cucumber (708), Main Colour (MC)

However there are lots of other potential great colour combinations!

The pattern includes charts for the fairisle sections of the sweater.

Hope you enjoy the pattern! Happy knitting!
