UPDATE 4/16/15: This is my first pattern, so I’m sure there are a few kinks to work out. Let me know if anything doesn’t make sense!

Very bright and eye-catching pattern based off of the popular “wheat stitch” motif. Uses approximately 150 yards of a solid yarn and 120 yards of a brighter, contrast color.

If worked in a single color, ~220 yard should be enough. The color changes add extra yardage requirements.

With constant color changes and beautiful cables, this hat is rewarding to create even after only a few rows. Guaranteed to get comments and looks, this hat is deceptively stretchy. The pattern easily allows for any combination of colors you can imagine.

I recommend 4mm size crochet hook. 5mm may work if you have a lot of hair or large head, but the any larger than that and the hat will be HUGE. The cotton yarn stretches quite a bit.

Very stretchy and comfortable, this is the perfect warmer-weather hat to keep you covered in the sun and keep the sweat off your brow. Make it out of wool and have a delightful winter hat as well. A larger hook size may be needed when working with non-cotton yarns.
