Reversible Herringbone Hat - Two Hats in One

A versatile design that let’s you decide how you want it to be worn. A simple flip changes the hat from slouchy to beanie.

As noted in the pattern, this design creates a hat that can be worn as a slouchy or turned inside-out and be worn as a beanie with the brim turned back. It is recommended that the main part of the hat be one color. Stripes may not show properly when the hat is reversed. The beanie style fits closer to the head, so keep that in mind for sizing.

The herringbone half-double crochet creates a unique texture that is bumpy on one side and smooth on the other when worked in the round. In this design, the bumpy side is intended for the slouchy and the smooth side will be shown for the beanie. This means you will be working as the bumpy side as the “right side” while crocheting the hat.

If you substitute yarn, bear in mind that the HBhdc of the body of the hat creates a nice stretchy fabric, but the single crochet of the brim is more dense. I don’t recommend using a thicker acrylic for the entire brim, but scraps to add color will probably work okay.

You may, of course, use your finished product however you wish, but please give me credit for my work. Don’t be unkind and claim this design as your own. And make one to donate. Everyone deserves something nice.
