> Ribbed Stitch Shrug
Ribbed Stitch Shrug
A soft, dramatic ribbed shrug with oversized sleeves, a cropped open-front silhouette, and a generous collar that wraps beautifully around the shoulders.
Worked almost entirely in ribbing, this design creates a highly textured fabric with plenty of stretch and movement. The construction is simple and intuitive: begin at one cuff, work through the first sleeve and back, then continue into the second sleeve before finishing with the wide ribbed collar.
The pattern includes instructions for both circular needles and straight needles, making it suitable for knitters who prefer either method.
The gradual transition from 1×1 ribbing to 2×2 and then 4×4 ribbing gives the sleeves their distinctive volume while keeping the cuffs comfortably fitted.
Sizes: XS/S (M/L, XL/2XL, 3XL/4XL)
Needles: 4 mm / US 6
Yarn: approximately 1350–2430 m, depending on size
Construction: cuff to cuff, worked in one piece with a picked-up ribbed collar
Skill level: intermediate / confident beginner
A versatile statement piece that looks equally good over a simple top, dress, or high-waisted trousers, and works especially well with self-striping or subtly variegated yarns.
