This rice stitch baby blanket is simple and an easy project for someone who is just becoming familiar with knitting. It is also a very relaxing pattern for an intermediate or advanced knitter, since there is a lot of repetition.

These are instructions for making the same baby blanket in two ways. I make this blanket with the broken rib stitch, since it is all knits and purls. You can also knit it in rice stitch, but you’ll also need to learn how to knit through the back loop. This can be good practice to learn how to twist and untwist stitches. Either pattern you follow will result in the exact same blanket, so choose what is best for you.
