These Fair Isle gloves are part of my plant dyed yarn collection. They are knitted in a Shetland style 2 ply yarn (knits as 4 ply) but any 4ply yarn can be used. The most of plants have been sensitively collected from paths, lanes and riverbanks around the beautiful town of Stamford, our hometown or grown in our small Victorian walled garden.
They are designed as an introduction to colour work and knitted on two needles, with basic stripes and Fair Isle motif. To keep it simple there is only one purl row in the motif, which is an alternating to stitch repeat. The optional thumb rib is knitted on double pointed needles which may introduce knitters to using 3 or 4 needles. They are fun to knit whatever your skill level or experience.
The pattern includes fingerless gloves with an open thumb, a simple ‘cast off - cast on’ opening or wrist warmers with no thumb opening. A simple adjustment to the pattern can be made for knitting in the round by omitting the first and last row and knitting every row.
The pattern is well laid out with clear coloured charts, and photographs to illustrate techniques.
An information sheet about colour work and Fair Isle Knitting techniques is available with all my Fair Isle patterns. Please email me if you would like one.
The pattern can be found in my online Ravelry and Folksy shops, also a knitting kit in my Folksy shop. The details are at the end of this pattern.
