The Rogue River cuts through the Cascade Range mountains whose violent volcanic and tectonic births haven’t been smoothed out by time. I find wild Oregon to be endlessly inspiring. I wanted to make a shawl whose shapes echoed one another but were formed differently, like a peak and a river bend.

This shawl plays with modular construction and garter shapes. Knitting begins with a minimalist top down triangular start, which grows in width rapidly and slowly in depth. Once the final wingspan is reached the first color is set aside and the second color is joined to form a wedge of color that is worked perpendicularly and gobbles up stitches as it goes, leaving the tiniest of BOs at the end.

Finished Shawl measures 24” Deep and 68” Wide
